I’ve visited twice, both times for several days, and my honest answer is this – two full days (or two nights) covers the essentials comfortably if you’re passing through as part of a broader itinerary. 

If Granada is your destination in its own right, three days lets you settle into the place rather than just tick it off.

The thing that strikes me most about Granada, every time, is the juxtaposition. 

A morning inside the Alhambra feels like stepping clean out of the modern world – its Nasrid palaces are almost disorientingly beautiful, and on my last visit I stayed in a historic building in the Albaicín where that sense of displacement lingered long after I’d left. 

Then you walk fifteen minutes downhill, and you’re in a cosmopolitan city centre, buzzing with tapas bars, coffee shops, and students. Granada holds both of those things at once, and that’s part of why it rewards more time than people tend to give it.

If your budget doesn’t stretch to this, you’ll be able to see a lot of Granada’s highlights from outside, and on foot, within a couple of days.

• Notes: Booking tickets in advance is something that not only do I highly recommend, but is something that I would say is essential. If it’s in your budget, then I’d absolutely recommend that you take a small-group guided tour.

• Approximate Time: 1-3 hours for a leisurely walk.
• Notes: Best explored on foot; lots of steep, narrow streets. You may want to give yourself additional time to stop at viewpoints or cafes. If in a hurry, you’ll be able to get a feel for the area in around an hour, without wandering too far. 

Sacromonte

• Approximate Time: 2 hours.

Royal Chapel (Capilla Real)

• Approximate Time: 45 minutes – 1 hour.
• Notes: It’s relatively small but packed with history, so a guided tour can enrich your experience. This tour also includes Granada Cathedral. 

Granada Cathedral

• Approximate Time: 1 hour.
• Notes: Its grandeur and details warrant a slower pace to take it all in. Take some time too to admire the outside of the cathedral from all angles – it’s very photogenic. 

Mirador San Nicolas

• Approximate Time: 30 minutes, not including the time to get there.
• Notes: Ideal for sunset but can get crowded, so go early to claim a good spot.

Tapas Crawl in Centro

• Approximate Time: 2-3 hours.
• Notes: Many places offer free tapas with a drink purchase, so it’s easy to make an evening of it, depending on how much you want to drink! If you want to keep alcohol to a minimum, you’ll also just be able to order tapas dishes without the booze, too.

One day in Granada is quite rushed, and at the very least would limit you to perhaps one major attraction, most likely the Alhambra. You’d miss out on experiencing the city’s diverse neighbourhoods, food scene, and other cultural landmarks.

Therefore, while it’s possible to see a bit of Granada in one day, it won’t offer a rounded experience and you’ll have to cherrypick.

Is 2 days enough for Granada?

Two days in Granada can offer a good introduction to the city. You’ll likely focus on must-see attractions like the Alhambra and the Albaicín neighbourhood. However, you may potentially miss out on a deeper exploration of the city’s culture, food scene, and additional landmarks.
