Viva España: where vibrancy meets verve

My ventures into Spain began at the tender age of seven, marked by a family holiday to the sun-drenched town of Pals, where the Mediterranean’s embrace was a vivid contrast to the cooler climes of home.

Having spent some time in Salamanca, visiting my sister who was on Erasmus there, it was Seville that beckoned beseechingly a few years later. Here is a city where the zest of life is matched only by the zest of its oranges!

I always said that Seville was a place I could live in, so after several visits, I set myself up there for an extended sojourn of several months as an old year became a new one. While the rest of Europe languished in the grey shroud of winter, Seville was a riot of colour and energy.

Andalusia and its Moorish history fascinates me.

The Mezquita of Córdoba and Granada’s Alhambra are masterpieces of Islamic art, their intricate designs a dialogue between past and present. And then there is the countryside – Ronda’s dramatic gorge and the sunlit beaches of Cadiz are landscapes steeped in nature’s magnificence.

Spain’s offerings, however, are far richer than just this – stay peeled while the content on this blog expands to encapsulate more of its diverse regions.
