Discover the best villas in Tuscany with private pools through this detailed guide. Learn which areas specifically you should consider basing yourself in, depending on your needs. From countryside estates to scenic hilltop retreats, you’ll find thoughtfully selected villas in each standout location.
Tuscany is an infinitely beautiful region in Italy whose virtues I could extoll all day long. An intoxicating concoction of medieval hilltop hamlets, gently undulating plains of green and gold-hued hills, a patchwork of vineyards that produce some of the world’s most famous wines.
And, how can anyone forget – a wonderfully hearty, rustic cuisine – there is nothing quite as immersive and relaxing as a week spent in the Tuscan countryside.
The best way to enjoy it is to experience it slowly; to witness for yourself the early morning mist as it rolls in over the hills and shrouds the vines and to spend lazy afternoons exploring ancient villages, parking yourself up on the edge of a piazza for an interlude when some sustenance is required.
Renting a villa in Tuscany with a private pool gives you the perfect base to do all this from, and provides a perfect retreat to return to after some sightseeing.
It also provides the perfect excuse for you to kick back, relax and get started on that novel you’ve been meaning to read, all whilst being able to dip your toes in the pool should you get a little overheated.

Villas in Tuscany with private pools – top picks
Why should you book a Tuscan villa with a private pool
Villas with private pools in Tuscany make a great base for exploring the region at your own pace.
If you’re planning a more low-key trip where there is plenty of relaxation involved, then it makes sense to opt for a villa where you will have plenty of space and can get settled in comfortably for the duration of your trip.
If you choose a well-located Tuscany villa rental with a private pool, you’ll be able to reach plenty of Tuscany’s small towns so will by no means run out of things to do or places to eat. You’ll also very likely be close to one of Tuscany’s larger cities, so day trips to the likes of Florence, Pisa, Siena and Arezzo will be possible.
Finally, if you’re part of a larger group or are spending a week or more in the area, chances are, you’ll get more for your money with a Tuscan villa that has a private pool than with a comparable hotel.
If you’re short on time, however, or a planning a multi-stop Tuscany road trip itinerary, then you may be better suited to staying in hotels as opposed to a villa as many villas will have a minimum stay duration, often of a week, especially in the more popular summer months.

What is the best part of Tuscany to stay in?
To make the most of all that Tuscany has to offer, certain areas are better than others. With a bit of planning – and the right villa in the right spot – your Tuscan stay can be both scenic and seamless. In easy reach of several lovely Tuscan towns and hamlets, and perhaps also be close to a city or two.
There are several areas that I would recommend that you look at. I’ll start with a quick overview below, then walk you through the best villas with private pools in each part of Tuscany worth considering.
In short, you should consider the areas of:
- Northern Tuscany: to include the area around Pisa and Lucca
- Central Tuscany & Chianti: stretching from Florence to Siena and including towns like San Gimignano
- The Val d’Orcia: just south of Siena and including towns like Montepulciano, Montalcino and Pienza
- The Tuscan coast: consider the full stretch of coast, depending on your needs. North will give you access to city of Pisa, Elba island is a complete retreat and the Maremma offers unspoilt coastline.
Best villas in Tuscany with private pools by area
Northern Tuscany
The north of Tuscany is a little more mountainous than the rest of the region, and is also a little less visited than the rest of Tuscany. The city of Pisa and town of Lucca are, however, immediately recognisable names, so the area still does receive quite a bit of footfall.
A well-placed villa with a private pool in the Pisa–Lucca corridor (they’re only about 20km apart) makes a convenient launch point for exploring both of these compact, character-rich cities.
As well, the Garfagnana valley (famed for its chestnuts and mushrooms) and the Mugello to the north of Florence, which was the original homeplace of the Medici family. Florence itself is also relatively close and can be reached by car or train from both cities in around an hour or so.

The area that comprises Chianti is famed for its wine by the same name and you’ll find oodles of vineyards and fattorias in the area to happily while away the afternoons in, swilling wine.
The area is verdant and lusciously green and I can still hear the melodic birdsong that I woke to each morning when I stayed in the area.

Footnote: What is so great about Tuscany and why you should consider visiting
Before we wrap up this post, how do you know if a trip to Tuscany is right for you?
Being honest, I think Tuscany is a wonderful choice for a vast swathe of people, unless you prefer a more urban sojourn, or your idea of a relaxing holiday is pitching up at an all-exclusive and not budging.
Tuscany is, however, going to appeal to two types of people in particular – those who appreciate exquisite natural surroundings and those who love cultural experiences.
First things first, is the positively sublime countryside of the Chianti hills and the gentler, rolling slopes of the Val d’Orcia. Dotted with hilltop towns, cypress trees and acres of vines, it’s often images of these two areas that are used to depict the Italian countryside.
While devoid of the gargantuan peaks that are found in other Italian regions (although those in search of a mountainous retreat in Tuscany can make for the Apennines), there is a splendid calmness and serenity as to how the Tuscan landscape splays out in these two areas. It’s easy to see why it inspired so much Renaissance art.
And onto the art. Tuscany was the birthplace to two great schools of art – the Renaissance and the Sienese – and the towns and villages of the Tuscan countryside felt the ripple effect of this, with lots of hidden gems and artistic treasures to be found dotted around the region as a result.
Cultural immersion in Tuscany is also not just limited to art, though.
The region is also a foodie and oenophile’s dream and has given much to the world in terms of both its wines (Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano amongst them) and its cuisine, so I ask you – what is better than to come to the source?
