Some tours are designed for in-depth history, others prioritise scenic drives and coastal towns, while a few cater to those who just need a straightforward way to get there and back. Here’s what I think is worth considering before booking.

Group Size & Tour Type

Group size has a huge impact on the experience. Large coach tours (40–100 people) are budget-friendly, efficient, and social, but can feel a bit impersonal. 

Small-group tours (12–20 people) offer a better balance—more interaction with the guide, but still structured. 

Private tours are the most comfortable and flexible but come at a premium price. I always recommend going for the smallest group size your budget allows.

How Much Time You’ll Actually Spend at Each Stop

Some tours give a proper amount of time to explore, while others rush through sites. Pompeii-only tours typically allow 3–4 hours at the ruins, which is enough to see the highlights.
